Giving your horse the right start begins with valuing not only what the horse learns first but also how he learns it. The basics form the foundation for what the horse should learn. The effective use and attitude of the rider’s seat as the primary means of communication is how he should learn. Sabine is fluent in the language of horse training. Always open minded, she skillfully and patiently asks, seeks, listens, watches, feels, insists, clarifies, and repeats, each message to the individual horse. Ultimately building a correct foundation to be built on and that stands the test of time.
The initial training process begins with a thorough evaluation of the horse. Sabine takes a collaborative approach having conversations with the horse owner and home trainer both prior to the horse arriving and during the horses stay. An individualized training plan is developed that includes five days of work and seven days in the pasture. Typically, however, young horses begin learning proper lounging in the three gaits. Next, the work under saddle focuses on the horse getting used to the rider’s weight and is taught how to be in balance with the rider on his back. As the horse becomes more balanced Sabine begins teaching the rider’s aids, leg seat and hands, how to go forward, how to slow down and remain balanced into transitions and how to yield away from the leg pressure with the leg yield. Upon completing the foundation training the horse will know how to move forward maintaining his balance in all three gaits, while on the aids, staying connected from the hind end through his back through to the bit.
Believing that the training should be something the horse enjoys, she likes to include variety in the type of work that is done. Depending on the individual horse, that might include being trail ridden, driven, traveling to shows for experience, or free jumping.
Sabine’s training ability has been proven to be a good investment for the horse owner, as it has been an option for owners to have her complete the training process by competing the horse at a recognized show. The judge’s scores and test comments give both Sabine and the horse owner instant feedback on the overall effectiveness of the training
The following are Friesians Sabine has recently trained and competed for their owners, Pier, Tyberius, Rampart, Simon, and Hannibal. While in training, Sabine can also promote your horse and/or farm during the show seasons.
Horses of all breeds are accepted into training and must be at least three years old. Sabine, being an active competitor, does not allow horses that are green. The horse needs to have proven to be safe under saddle, but the horse doesn’t need to have had any formal training. The horse should also be comfortable with a rider on his back and have well established ground manners.
Known for her expertise with Friesians, Sabine is sought out to fine tune and, if required, train and prepare young horses for the Keuring, stallion or mare performance testing and “Field Testing”. Sabine was head trainer for the fifty day testing in 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2002. Over the years she has prepared both stallions and mares for the FHS/FPZV Keurings and performance tests. She trained the Grand Champions at the Fifty Day Stallion Performance testing consecutively from 1998 through 2002.
Sabine is also available to present your horse, breeding stallion or mare at special occasions such as Equine Affair, the Friesian Extravaganza, the Andulsian Nationals, to name a few.
